The Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Soliu.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Senator Yar’Adua described the late cleric as a distinguished Islamic scholar and a symbol of peace whose contributions to Islam and national unity would be long remembered.
He extended condolences to the Government and people of Kwara State, the Emir of Ilorin, and the Muslim community across Nigeria, noting that the passing of Sheikh Bashir Soliu was a significant loss not only to Ilorin Emirate but to the country as a whole.
According to the statement, the late Chief Imam dedicated his life to the propagation of Islamic teachings, the promotion of peaceful coexistence, and the spiritual development of the Muslim Ummah, particularly within Ilorin Emirate and beyond.
Senator Yar’Adua said the cleric’s wisdom, humility, and commitment to Islamic principles inspired many and earned him respect across religious and communal lines.
He prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the late Islamic leader Al-Jannah Firdaus and to give his family, the Ilorin Emirate, and the people of Kwara State the strength to bear the loss.
The Northern Senators Forum chairman also urged Nigerians, especially members of the Muslim community, to remain united in prayers and to support the family of the deceased during the period of mourning.
