Mrs Akume Cries Out: Husband Abandoning Christianity, Family Faith at Risk

At the wedding reception of their son in Makurdi, Mrs Regina Akume, wife of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made a public and emotional plea over her husband’s apparent abandonment of Christianity.
Mrs Akume, a member of the House of Representatives representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, said her husband’s faith had been the cornerstone of his achievements and warned that turning away from it could jeopardize his legacy.
“Christianity brought us this far. To abandon it now could lead to failure,” she said, praying for his health, clarity of mind, and long life.
Her remarks, captured in an interview with Together TV, come shortly after Senator Akume’s high-profile marriage to Zaynab Ngohemba-George, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, a union that has sparked discussion within both family and public circles.
Mrs Akume’s words reflect a deeply personal concern over faith and guidance, highlighting how private family matters intersect with public perception and political prominence.
“We came this far not through enemies, but through Jesus Christ. I pray he returns to the faith that has blessed him and our family,” she added.
While Senator Akume has not responded publicly, Mrs Akume’s appeal has ignited conversation across social and political platforms, raising questions about faith, family, and leadership at the highest levels.
