Relief in Kogi as Magongo Kidnap Victims Regain Freedom — MDA

A wave of relief swept through Magongo community in Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State on Friday as five abducted residents were freed after four tense days in captivity.
The victims were kidnapped on Tuesday night around 8 p.m. while returning from Jos, Plateau State, where they had travelled to attend a wedding ceremony. Their abduction — which occurred just a few kilometres from their hometown — had thrown the community into fear and uncertainty.
Speaking in an exclusive telephone interview with The Reporters, the National President of the Magongo Development Association (MDA), Prince Jordan Akpata, confirmed that the captives regained their freedom at about 5 p.m. on Friday.
“They are out. They have been reunited with their families,” he said, noting that additional details surrounding the rescue operation would be released subsequently.
Although Prince Akpata did not provide immediate information on whether a ransom was paid or the nature of the intervention, he expressed deep gratitude to security agencies, community vigilantes, and concerned individuals whose swift collaboration contributed to the successful release.
“We are grateful. This is a huge relief for the entire Magongo community,” he added.
The abduction had sparked widespread anxiety in Ogori/Magongo LGA, with families and community leaders anxiously awaiting updates as security operatives intensified efforts behind the scenes.
Residents say the safe return of the victims has restored calm to the area, though concerns remain over the rising trend of highway kidnappings across the state.
