KOGI: Gov. Ododo presents 2026 Appropriation Bill of N820.4b to Assembly

GOVERNOR Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State on Tuesday presented an Appropriation Bill of N820,490,585,443 for the 2026 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly for approval.
Presenting the bill on the floor of the House, the Governor said the total 2026 Draft Budget package is N215,961,592,725 representing 35.7 per cent above the 2025 Revised Budget of N604,528,992.718.
The governor said that the Appropriation Bill, Dubbed “2026 Budget of Shared Prosperity: Driving Sustainable Growth For All”, has a total estimated Recurrent Revenue of N470,008,482,693 and total estimated Capital Expenditure of N453,042,501,760.
The governor sought the approval of the House for the total estimated Revenue (Recurrent and Capital) of N820,490,585,443 and the total estimated Expenditure (Recurrent and Capital) of N820,490,585,443. The adoption of the balanced 2026 Draft Budget of N820,490,585,443.
According to the Governor, the budget aims to enhance revenue mobilization; enforce expenditure discipline; deepen strategic investments in growth sectors; aggressively repay Federal Government debts and strengthen the investment climate.
Other aims include, to encourage collaborative investment models; block revenue leakages; and prioritize ongoing projects while introducing new initiatives aligned with the 32-Year Development Plan.
“These objectives will support economic growth, reduce financial pressures, and create a more competitive business environment”, he said.
Gov. Ododo said the 2026 budget proposal reflects a robust and balanced financial strategy that emphasizes enhanced revenue generation, strategic control, and strong commitment to capital investment.
He commended the lawmakers for their partnership, diligence, and unwavering commitment to the progress of Kogi state. “Your Legislative support and oversight continue to strengthen our agenda for sustainable prosperity.”
Mr. Speaker, Honourable Members, the 2026 Draft Budget is more than a financial statement, it is a roadmap for inclusive growth, economic diversification, and shared prosperity.
“Our vision is clear: to create an economy that works for every citizen, one that rewards productivity, encourages innovation, and uplifts the vulnerable.
Earlier, Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf in his welcome address commended Governor Ododo for his unwavering commitment to fiscal discipline, infrastructural development, security, and human capital investment across the state.
He applauded the governor’s strides recorded in healthcare, education, road infrastructure, agriculture and public financial management as evidence of his administration’s vision of a stable, prosperous and inclusive Kogi State.
The Speaker expressed the House’ profound gratitude to the government for the sustained delivery of good governance and reaffirm the resolve of the state’s 8th Assembly to continue to foster harmonious Executive-Legislative relationship.
