2027: Kogi West Leaders Double Down on Power Shift

***Slam Kogi East Elites Forum as “Political Attack Dogs”

The agitation for a power shift to Kogi West in 2027 gained renewed momentum as the Kogi West Leaders League (KWLL) reaffirmed its total support for Senator Sunday Karimi, insisting that the district’s turn to produce the next governor is long overdue.
KWLL, reacting sharply to the press conference held by the Kogi East Elites Forum, described the group as a “hurriedly assembled attack squad” created to distract and derail the region’s legitimate demand for equity in 2027. The League accused the forum of being an emergency contraption designed to suppress the longstanding aspirations of Kogi West.
According to the group, no political machination, financial inducement, or rented spokesmen can stand in the way of Kogi West as it pushes to occupy Lugard House for the first time in the state’s 34-year history.
They noted that Senator Karimi’s remarks at the Kabba Day celebration echoed the collective sentiment of Kogi West and reflect the district’s firm resolve for justice, fairness, and inclusion. KWLL also passed a vote of confidence on the senator, saying he has delivered credible representation and tangible dividends of democracy.
Dismissing the criticisms from Dr. Abubakar Rajab and his group, KWLL said it was “embarrassing and laughable” that individuals with declining political relevance were being paraded as the voice of Kogi East. The group argued that the so-called forum is a coalition of failed politicians struggling for visibility.
Reiterating its position, KWLL said the quest for the 2027 governorship is not a confrontation but a principled push rooted in dialogue, partnership, and fairness with Kogi East and Kogi Central — a process they said is already in motion.
They pointed out that Kogi Central enjoyed four years of leadership during the old Kwara State era and will, by 2027, have completed 16 straight years in the current Kogi State. “Kogi West cannot continue to wait while others enjoy uninterrupted power,” the group said.
KWLL emphasized that the demand for rotation is now a moral imperative:
“Justice and good governance demand that Kogi West takes its rightful turn. The yearnings of our people cannot be dismissed or postponed.”
