Tinubu Sends Shettima to Kebbi, Vows Quick Rescue of Abducted Schoolgirls

President Bola Tinubu has dispatched Vice President Kashim Shettima to Kebbi State following the abduction of schoolgirls from a boarding school in Maga. The visit is aimed at offering solidarity to the state, comforting parents and guardians, and ensuring the government’s commitment to the swift and safe return of the children.
The President also mourned the loss of gallant soldiers, including Brigadier-General Musa Uba, who died while confronting insurgents in Borno State. He described their sacrifice as a solemn reminder of the courage required to protect the nation.
Briefed by military authorities, Tinubu expressed regret that the abduction occurred despite intelligence warnings. He commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for his proactive measures and stressed the need for closer collaboration between state authorities and security agencies.
Condemning the attack as a threat not only to the affected community but also to the broader pursuit of safe education, Tinubu urged stronger community vigilance and effective intelligence-sharing. “Security forces cannot operate at full capacity without the support of the people. Timely information from citizens is vital to preventing such attacks,” he said.
Highlighting the disruption to children’s education, the President said, “No society should tolerate the targeting of innocent schoolgirls. I have directed our security agencies to mobilize all resources to ensure their safe return without delay.”
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s determination to restore peace in troubled regions, noting that ongoing security sector reforms—including increased recruitment, better equipment, and advanced technology—are designed to strengthen Nigeria’s ability to tackle insurgency, banditry, and other emerging threats.
Vice President Shettima is expected to meet with state officials, families of the abducted girls, traditional rulers, and security commanders during his visit to Kebbi State.
