Former presidential candidate and national leader, Peter Obi, has expressed profound grief over the killing of Brigadier-General M. Uba and other military personnel engaged in counterterrorism operations across Nigeria.
Obi, who returned to the country on the day of the incident, described the attack as “devastating” and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen officers and the entire military community.
“This tragedy underscores the enormous risks our armed forces take daily to protect citizens,” Obi said. “Their courage and sacrifices, including the ultimate sacrifice, demand our deepest respect and action.”

Calling for urgent reforms, Obi urged the Federal Government to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework, provide the military with adequate equipment, intelligence support, welfare, and motivation, and ensure that perpetrators of attacks against the state are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.
He added, “Nigeria must honour its heroes not only with words but by building a nation where their labour and sacrifices contribute to lasting peace, safety, and national renewal.”
Obi concluded by praying that the souls of Brigadier-General Uba and all fallen officers “rest in perfect peace.”
The statement comes amid growing concerns over terrorist attacks in Nigeria and the security challenges facing the country’s armed forces in protecting civilians and vital institutions.
