    Wale Edun Hails Medicaid Cancer Foundation’s ₦100 Million Contribution to Patients

    The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has applauded the Medicaid Cancer Foundation for disbursing ₦100 million to cancer patients and support organisations, calling it a shining example of how private-sector philanthropy can create meaningful social and economic impact.
    Speaking at the Cervical Cancer Day Commemoration in Abuja, Mr. Edun emphasized that such initiatives complement government efforts to strengthen healthcare and build a healthier, more productive population.
    “This is not just financial support; it is an act of solidarity and shared responsibility,” he said. “Every contribution to cancer care helps strengthen our human capital and boosts national productivity.”
    Highlighting the government’s commitment to health, Edun noted that funding for the sector has risen from just over 3% of the national budget in 2023 to 5.2% in 2025, reflecting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to expanding access to quality healthcare.
    He also revealed that three of six planned regional oncology centres—located in Katsina, Edo, and Enugu States—are now operational, bringing critical treatment closer to communities. Praising Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, founder of the foundation, Edun said private initiatives anchored in compassion and partnership are vital to creating a sustainable healthcare system.
    “A healthy nation is the foundation of inclusive economic growth,” he said.
    The Minister reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for private sector participation in health, ensuring that transformative initiatives like Medicaid’s continue to expand nationwide.
    “Partnerships like this signal a decisive step toward a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous Nigeria,” he concluded.
