The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has voiced support for Delta North Senator Ned Nwoko’s public call for his wife, actress Regina Daniels, to undergo rehabilitation for alleged drug abuse, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding her health and well-being.

Senator Nwoko, in an interview with journalists on Sunday, explained that the decision was motivated by concern for his 25-year-old wife and their two children. “I want her alive and healthy, not just for me, but for our children. We have two young kids together, and they cannot fight for themselves, so I’m going to fight for them by safeguarding their mother,” he said.

The lawmaker noted that a series of alarming toxicology reports indicated high levels of harmful substances in Daniels’ system. He also observed changes in her personality in recent months, including violent and destructive behaviour and recurring health crises. “Many people have died of drug overdose, and if anything happens to her now, what will I tell her children tomorrow?” he asked.

Reacting to Nwoko’s statements, HURIWA expressed unequivocal support, describing the lawmaker’s concern as “a call for her to preserve and salvage her young life.” The civil society organization advised Daniels to follow her estranged husband’s counsel and embrace rehabilitation, stressing that doing so would enable her to become the best possible mother to their children.

HURIWA highlighted the role of professional rehabilitation centres, noting that such facilities offer medical-grade amenities to support recovery and improve both physical and mental health. “With therapies such as massage and yoga, coupled with mental, spiritual, and nutritional courses of treatment, you’re bound to regain your optimum state of wellness,” the organization said.

The group further explained that rehabilitation centres typically work with trusted detox facilities to ensure the safe removal of toxic substances and that nutritionists can provide guidance on healthy diets to restore appetite and overall immunity.

“Drugs poison your system with toxins, compromising several body functions. Professional guidance helps individuals break free from dependence, regain strength, and reclaim their lives,” HURIWA added.
