Following the recent military postings across the country, Major General John Olusegun Adeyemo has formally assumed duty as the 50th Commander, Corps of Artillery (CCA) at the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery (NACA) in Kontagora, Niger State.
The brief handing and taking-over ceremony, held at the Corps Headquarters, saw Major General Zakari Logun Abubakar officially transfer the mantle of leadership to his successor.
According to a statement by Captain Innocent Prince Omale, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters, NACA Kontagora, the outgoing Commander, Maj. Gen. Abubakar, is retiring from active service after a distinguished career in the Nigerian Army. His exit follows the recent shake-up within the military high command that produced new service chiefs.
In his valedictory address, Maj. Gen. Abubakar expressed gratitude to God for a successful and fulfilling military career. He commended the officers, soldiers, and civilian staff of the Corps for their unwavering support and commitment throughout his tenure.
“Your loyalty and dedication were instrumental to the many milestones achieved under my leadership,” he said, urging continued commitment to his successor to sustain and surpass the Corps’ successes.
He also extended appreciation to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, for the opportunity to serve as Commander, Corps of Artillery.
In his maiden address, Maj. Gen. Adeyemo expressed profound gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, for the confidence reposed in him.
“I am deeply honoured by this appointment. I assure the Army leadership of my total commitment to advancing the operational readiness and professional excellence of the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery,” he stated.
He pledged to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor while enhancing the Corps’ strategic contributions to Nigeria’s evolving security landscape.
Adeyemo urged officers and soldiers to remain disciplined, loyal, and professional in the discharge of their duties.
The ceremony featured the signing of handing and taking-over notes, decoration of the new Commander with insignia, symbolic presentation of the Command Flag, tree planting, inspection of ongoing projects, and a group photograph.
