Lamido to Tinubu: Swallow Your Pride, Rally Ex-Leaders to Avert Trump’s War Threat

Former Jigawa State Governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Sule Lamido, has raised alarm over what he described as an “ominous” threat of war on Nigeria reportedly emanating from U.S. President Donald Trump.
Lamido warned that such a move would have dire and unimaginable consequences, urging Nigerians across all divides to close ranks in defense of the nation’s sovereignty.
“The threat of war on Nigeria from President Trump of the United States of America under whatever guise is very ominous. The consequences of such action cannot be imagined,” Lamido said in a statement on Saturday.
He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to put aside personal pride and urgently convene a meeting with all former presidents and heads of state to forge a united response to the growing tension.
“President Tinubu must swallow his pride and invite all our past leaders for a closed-door meeting to discuss and find a way around this dangerous development,” he urged.
Lamido stressed that past Nigerian leaders are well-positioned to engage Washington and President Trump through quiet diplomacy beyond the media spotlight to defuse the crisis.
He warned that the country no longer has the luxury of time, emphasizing that only unity, wisdom, and discreet diplomacy can avert the looming danger.
