The Kogi East Elders Council (KEEC) has lauded the appointment of Major General Waidi Shaibu as Nigeria’s new Chief of Army Staff, describing it as a well-earned recognition of courage, professionalism, and integrity in the service of the nation.
In a congratulatory message jointly signed by the Chairman, Prof. Godwin Ogbadu, and Secretary-General, Chief Dr. Rekiya Momoh-Abaji, the elders expressed immense pride in General Shaibu’s elevation, calling it “a round peg in a round hole.”
The council said the appointment did not come as a surprise, given the officer’s illustrious record of service and deep commitment to the ideals of national unity, peace, and security.
“We have followed your service with admiration and note how your hard work and dedication have continued to inspire many in Kogi East, Kogi State, and across Nigeria,” the statement read.
“Your proven leadership qualities assure us that you will excel in this new responsibility.”
The elders described General Shaibu’s rise as a source of pride not only for Kogi East but for the entire nation, emphasizing that his appointment comes at a crucial time when Nigeria needs visionary and disciplined leadership to strengthen national security.
They prayed for divine wisdom, protection, and guidance as he leads the Nigerian Army in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and restoring public confidence in the armed forces.
“We pray that Almighty God will grant you wisdom and strength to lead the Nigerian Army with honour and courage. Be assured of our goodwill and moral support whenever the need arises,” the message added.
The KEEC also reaffirmed its readiness to stand by the new Army Chief, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a strategic and thoughtful choice that reflects fairness, merit, and national balance.
Major General Shaibu, a proud son of Kogi State, has built a reputation for professionalism and excellence throughout his career, earning respect within and beyond the military establishment. His appointment has been widely celebrated across Kogi East and beyond as a symbol of hope, dedication, and service to the nation.
