Tinubu Nominates Doro as New Plateau Minister After Yilwatda’s Exit

**Senate receives president’s request for confirmation

***Screening slated after Lagos retreat

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State as a minister to replace Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who recently vacated his seat in the Federal Executive Council following his emergence as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The president’s request for Senate confirmation was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Wednesday.

In the letter, Tinubu cited Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the president to appoint ministers subject to Senate approval.

“In compliance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution, I forward for confirmation the nomination of Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Plateau State. I trust that the Senate will give this request expeditious consideration,” the letter read in part.

Yilwatda, who previously represented Plateau State in the cabinet, resigned his position earlier this month after being elected as APC national chairman — creating a vacancy for the state in the federal cabinet.

Senate President Akpabio subsequently referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for legislative consideration. The screening and confirmation are expected to take place after lawmakers return from the Senate Constitution Review Retreat scheduled to hold in Lagos from Thursday.

If confirmed, Dr. Doro will assume office as Plateau State’s representative in the Federal Executive Council, restoring the state’s slot in President Tinubu’s cabinet.
