The Senator representing Edo South, Neda Imasuen, has begun early mobilization for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area to deliver overwhelming support for the president in 2027.
Imasuen, who met with his constituents at Umagbai Ward 5 over the weekend, said the interaction was both to officially inform them of his defection to the APC on June 12 and to build synergy with the party’s grassroots structure.
“Politics is local. It was imperative that I return to my ward, not just to inform them of my joining the party, but also to meet the ward executives,” the lawmaker said. “This move will strengthen the party, promote unity, and ensure victory at the polls.”
He praised President Tinubu’s “bold and courageous” economic reforms, describing them as difficult but necessary steps to reposition Nigeria. He also aligned with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s target of 2.5 million votes for Tinubu from Edo State in 2027, declaring:
“By the grace of God, Asiwaju 2027 is settled. Part of that settlement is to begin work now, from the grassroots.”
At the meeting, APC leaders and members pledged to stand solidly behind Imasuen’s second-term bid, describing him as an asset to the party whose continued presence in the Senate would bring greater influence and dividends of democracy to Edo South.
LGA APC Chairman, Osayimwenre Osawe, said:
“He is not a liability. He came to add value. Beyond development, his return would make him a ranking senator, positioning him for more influence on the Senate floor.”
Acting Council Chairman, Augustine Imafidon Uhuonde, also commended the senator’s accessibility and performance:
“Even watching him from the other side, he made us proud. Today, he has come down to the ward level to join hands with us. That shows he is grass-rooted and truly a man of the people.”
The gathering drew prominent APC figures, including Festus Aimierovbiye, Ward 5 Chairman; former Edo State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Orobosa Omo-Ojo; Hon. Derick Uhunmwagho, Liaison Officer and Chief of Staff to the senator; Iziegbe Gabriel, LGA Coordinator; and Ese Edegbe, Ward 5 Assistant Coordinator.
With the ward endorsement, Senator Imasuen now appears poised to consolidate his influence locally, even as he rallies support for Tinubu’s return bid — setting the stage for what promises to be a heated 2027 race in Edo politics.
