A US-based political lobbying firm has stepped up its campaign over unproven allegations concerning President Bola Tinubu, saying it has taken the matter to members of the US Congress and senior government officials.
Von Batten-Montague-York said its founder, Dr Von Batten, used meetings at the Republican National Midterm Convention to brief American lawmakers and state officials on allegations it claims were contained in records involving the Nigerian President.
The firm alleged that Tinubu was linked to a criminal organisation involved in heroin trafficking from Nigeria to the United States in the 1980s and 1990s.
It also claimed that proceeds from the alleged operation were moved through several US banks, including financial institutions in Virginia and Indiana.
The allegations were not independently verified from the statement, and the firm did not present new evidence in its latest post to establish the claims.
The lobbying firm, however, said it was determined to keep the matter before American officials.
“We are coming for you,” it warned Tinubu in a post on its verified X account, adding that the passage of time would not prevent what it described as American justice from being pursued.
The firm also said it had engaged Virginia Representative John McGuire and Indiana Representative Diego Morales, arguing that officials from the two states were relevant because of its claims about the alleged movement of heroin and proceeds through the regions.
The latest intervention shifts the focus from the old allegations themselves to the firm’s renewed effort to draw the attention of US political circles to the claims.
The allegations against Tinubu have been the subject of political controversy, but the latest statement by Von Batten-Montague-York does not, by itself, establish that the allegations are true.
The firm did not indicate any immediate legal action against Tinubu in its statement, but its renewed warning suggests it intends to continue its campaign.
There was no response from the Nigerian presidency contained in the statement.
