Kebbi Lawmakers Demand Malami’s Arrest Over Alleged Breach of Peace

Members of the Kebbi State Caucus in the National Assembly have gone on the offensive, demanding the arrest and prosecution of former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), accusing him of instigating violence in their home state.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central)—flanked by fellow senators and House of Representatives members—dismissed as “false and politically motivated” the petition Malami filed on 10 September 2025. Malami’s petition had accused Governor Nasir Idris and other political figures of importing thugs, hiring foreign mercenaries, and engaging in secret arms deals.

“These allegations are baseless and a desperate attempt to undermine the peace and stability Kebbi enjoys under Governor Idris,” Aliero declared. “Ironically, it was Malami himself who recently brought in thugs from Sokoto, Koko, and Rara during a condolence visit to Birnin Kebbi, leading to violent clashes at the APC state secretariat.”

The caucus stressed that neither the Kebbi government nor the All Progressives Congress (APC) had ever been linked to terrorism or clandestine activities, maintaining that Kebbi remains one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states—thanks to robust security measures and strong citizen cooperation.

The lawmakers called on security agencies to “invite Malami to substantiate his allegations” and warned them not to be distracted by what they termed “partisan theatrics.”

Adding weight to the caucus’s demand, Senator Garuba Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South) defended the APC’s record as a peaceful party and ridiculed Malami’s claims.

“Malami’s house is less than 50 meters from the APC headquarters. If our party were violent, clashes would have been frequent,” Maidoki said. “This was a campaign-style convoy meant to provoke our supporters. Let him provide evidence of arms importation.”

Maidoki also commended President Bola Tinubu’s fight against insecurity, pointing out that many villages in his constituency—once abandoned due to banditry—have now been resettled.

In a show of unity, the Kebbi lawmakers reaffirmed their “unwavering support” for Governor Idris and vowed continued collaboration with security agencies to safeguard the peace and stability of Kebbi State.
