In a bold move to fortify security and curb rising crime rates, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has pledged full support to the newly-appointed Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, to sustain peace and development across the state.

During a courtesy visit to Government House, Uyo, the governor emphasized his administration’s dedication to proactive policing, unveiling plans to deploy at least one security operative in every village to serve as a community intelligence hub for the Nigeria Police.

Governor Eno lauded CP Azare’s return to the state, citing his previous role as Deputy Commissioner of Operations as an advantage, given his familiarity with Akwa Ibom’s security landscape. He assured that the state government would continue to deepen collaboration with security agencies, leveraging initiatives like the Ibom Community Watch to tackle crime and protect public assets.

Decrying the spate of vandalism targeting public infrastructure, including power transformers, Eno highlighted the financial strain caused by such acts and reiterated his administration’s resolve to clamp down on perpetrators through community policing strategies.

“Our focus is on ensuring that every village has a security presence to monitor and protect government facilities. This initiative, alongside the Ibom Community Watch, will bolster intelligence gathering and reinforce public safety,” the governor stated.

CP Azare, in response, commended the governor’s unwavering support for security agencies and vowed to consolidate efforts with other forces to maintain law and order in the state.

With peace and security as pillars for growth, the meeting signals a renewed push to secure Akwa Ibom, positioning the state as a model for effective governance and safety.
