Tension gripped Garko in Kano State on Friday after a mob attacked the local Police Division, leaving one person dead, three officers injured, and several vehicles destroyed.

According to a statement from the Police Command, trouble started when officers of the Wudil Area Command arrested three suspects over the killing of a resident. The suspects were taken to Garko Police Division for interrogation, but an angry crowd of youths stormed the station, demanding instant justice.

Armed with sticks and stones, the mob attempted to lynch the suspects, setting off violent clashes that resulted in the burning of a police patrol vehicle, the destruction of three Hisbah and council vehicles, and extensive damage to the station’s building.

During the chaos, a burning tyre reportedly exploded and fatally struck one of the attackers, while three others sustained injuries. The injured officers were rushed to Wudil Hospital and are said to be responding to treatment.

The Police Commissioner swiftly deployed reinforcements and initiated stakeholder engagements, which helped restore order in the community.

Nine suspects have so far been arrested for their roles in the attack, while investigations are ongoing to track down others involved.
