Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami has emerged as the new Emir of Zuru, following approval by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris.
The appointment comes after the death of the former Emir, Muhammad Sani Sami Gomo II, who passed away on August 16, 2025, in London.
Announcing the decision in Zuru on Thursday, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Dutsin-Mari, presented Mika’ilu with his letter of office. He explained that the selection followed a vote by the Zuru Emirate kingmakers, where Mika’ilu secured the highest support among three contenders.

“The appointment of Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami is a product of due process and the will of the kingmakers. We thank Governor Idris for approving the decision and urge the new Emir to lead with fairness, diligence, and the fear of God,” the commissioner stated.
He urged the new monarch to work for peace, unity, and the development of both Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State.
Meanwhile, Governor Idris, during a special prayer session marking Kebbi’s 34th anniversary, cautioned critics of President Bola Tinubu’s security record. He argued that the insecurity challenges predated the current administration and recalled how federal intervention recently restored calm in southern Kebbi with the deployment of 10 armoured personnel carriers.
Idris also accused some Abuja-based politicians from Kebbi of politicising security matters for personal gain rather than supporting efforts to stabilise the state.
