The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has thrown an open invitation to Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, urging him to embrace the opposition coalition rather than dismiss it as a “deception.”
Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, had in a recent Channels TV interview hinted at a 2027 comeback alongside his principal, Peter Obi, while questioning the credibility of the coalition being midwifed by the ADC.
But in a swift response on Saturday, ADC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Jackie Wayas, insisted the coalition was not about deceiving Nigerians but about building a formidable front to unseat the ruling party.
“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed is a man widely respected for his integrity and sense of justice. That is why we believe he should not stand aside throwing stones. This coalition is built on shared strength, and we hope he will join us in pushing for a better Nigeria,” Wayas said.
She explained that the coalition was born out of wide consultations with heavyweights such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Senate President David Mark, former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, ex-Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi himself.
Wayas disclosed that Obi has already pledged his loyalty to the coalition, recalling his July 3, 2025 declaration where he committed to working with others under the ADC to provide “competent and compassionate leadership.”
According to her, the coalition is not about ego or personal ambition but about unity, national interest, and delivering solutions to Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
“What Nigerians deserve is a clear and united opposition that can rescue this country from its current drift. The ADC has offered itself as the platform for that rescue mission. Let us come together and make it happen,” she declared.
