Taraba Workers to Strike Over Biometric Dispute

Public-sector workers in Nigeria’s Taraba State will launch an indefinite strike on August 11, defying government pleas for restraint.
The Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress accuse the state’s Biometric Data Capture Committee of “illegality” and procedural irregularities that they say have harmed employees.
A joint statement by NLC chief Peter Jediel and TUC’s Abasu Sule said an August 6 ultimatum was ignored.
Union branches across ministries and agencies have been told to form strike committees and begin mobilising immediately.
Workers and residents have been advised to stock up on essentials.
The showdown underscored chronic mistrust between labour and state officials, with biometric payroll reforms—meant to curb ghost workers—often sparking industrial unrest.
