Mahmoud Backs Health Innovation at Dental Summit

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through sustained investment in infrastructure, workforce development, and inter-professional collaboration.

Speaking at the maiden summit of the Dental Technologists Registration Board of Nigeria held at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, Dr. Mahmoud praised the rising prominence of dental technologists in modern multidisciplinary care teams across public and private sectors.

“As global awareness of oral health and the demand for advanced prosthetics rise, your role as dental technologists becomes even more vital,” she said.
Special Adviser on Media, Austine Elemue in a statement quoted the Minister to have urged participants to fully embrace digital transformation and artificial intelligence, calling on the profession to standardize training, prioritize innovation, and pursue global excellence. She also emphasized the need for a stronger research culture and the increased local production of dental materials to reduce overreliance on imports.

Dr. Mahmoud charged stakeholders at the summit to hold strategic, forward-thinking discussions that could shape national policy and raise professional standards. She expressed pride in the progress of the profession and assured the board of the FCT Administration’s continued support.

In his remarks, the Registrar of the Dental Technologists Registration Board of Nigeria, Malam Idris Bappah, said the summit presents a unique opportunity to address challenges facing the profession and brainstorm transformative ideas.

“This gathering is a crucial platform for us to identify bottlenecks and propose innovative solutions to strengthen our human capital and elevate our service delivery,” Bappah stated.

The event climaxed with the presentation of merit awards to distinguished individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the growth and advancement of dental technology in Nigeria.
