Tinubu Must Act Now or Lose Credibility — Timi Frank on Wike Land Scandal

Political activist and former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action to protect the credibility of his anti-corruption drive amid mounting allegations of land racketeering and abuse of office against FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Frank pointed to widespread reports and recent disclosures by Senator Ireti Kingibe as evidence of deepening public concern about transparency, fairness, and equity in the management of Abuja’s land assets under the Tinubu government.

“This is no longer about Wike alone,” Frank stated. “It is about the credibility of the Tinubu administration, the confidence of investors, and the rights of everyday Nigerians who are being squeezed out of their own capital.”

According to Frank, the alleged daily allocation of lands to Wike’s inner circle—including family members and political allies—amid the revocation of legitimate plots allocated to individuals, organizations, and even foreign embassies, raises serious questions about abuse of power and disregard for due process.

“Nigeria cannot afford to send a message that the rules only apply to some, while others operate above the law,” he said.

Frank warned that unless action is taken swiftly, the ongoing scandal threatens to undermine investor confidence, provoke legal disputes, and worsen social tensions among Abuja natives, who are already feeling displaced and sidelined.

He specifically called out the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), and the National Assembly, urging them to take their oversight responsibilities seriously and launch an independent probe into land allocations under Wike.

“Our institutions must not be quiet bystanders. Their silence only fuels the perception of complicity.”

The activist contrasted the handling of Wike’s case with that of suspended Minister Betta Edu, stating that selective accountability undermines the administration’s message of reform.

“If Betta Edu could be suspended over a much smaller scandal, why is Wike still untouched after these serious allegations? Nigerians are watching.”

He further called on President Tinubu to prioritize the national interest over political alliances, insisting that loyalty to the country must come before party loyalty or personal friendship.

“If President Tinubu is truly committed to fighting corruption, this is the time to act. Anything less will be seen as a green light for impunity.”

Frank concluded with a direct appeal to the President:

“Your silence speaks volumes. Mr. President, act now — or history will judge you not by your promises, but by what you chose to ignore.”
