Southern Kaduna Massacre Is Plot to Destroy Fragile Peace -Rights Group

Warns terrorists are exploiting renewed calm to reignite old divisions, demands sweeping military crackdown

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) on Wednesday sounded the alarm over the latest bloodbath in Southern Kaduna, declaring that the massacre in Kauru Local Government Area is part of a calculated campaign by terrorists to shatter the fragile peace returning to the state and plunge it back into years of sectarian violence.
The group said the attack on Naridon Village—where scores of residents were reportedly butchered, homes razed and several people abducted—goes beyond an isolated act of terror, warning that it bears the hallmarks of a deliberate attempt to undermine reconciliation, destroy public confidence and provoke fresh ethnic and religious conflict.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA said the bloodshed should serve as a wake-up call for the Federal Government, insisting that terrorists must not be allowed to dictate the future of Kaduna State.
“The objective of terrorism is not merely to kill innocent people but to destroy trust, create fear and fracture communities,” the organisation said.
HURIWA argued that the renewed attacks come at a critical moment when Kaduna has begun rebuilding trust after years of deep political, ethnic and religious divisions, warning that the killers are determined to erase those gains through sustained violence.
The organisation pointed to Governor Uba Sani’s policy of inclusive governance, including his choice of Jerry Adams from Southern Kaduna as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, describing it as a strong signal of political inclusion that must not be derailed by bloodshed.
It called on President Bola Tinubu to order an immediate security surge across Southern Kaduna, urging the deployment of additional troops, aerial surveillance and intelligence assets to communities repeatedly targeted by armed groups.
HURIWA also demanded that security agencies shift from reacting after attacks to preventing them through intelligence-led operations capable of dismantling terrorist networks before they strike.
The organisation insisted that every abducted resident must be rescued and that those responsible for the killings—including their sponsors, financiers and collaborators—must be hunted down and prosecuted.
It further appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders and community groups not to allow the latest killings to ignite reprisals, warning that such reactions would hand terrorists the victory they seek.
HURIWA maintained that the attack was not only an assault on innocent villagers but also a direct attack on Kaduna’s quest for peace, justice and coexistence, stressing that only decisive security action and sustained inclusive governance can stop the state from sliding back into one of its darkest chapters.
