Midnight Rescue in Ikot Abasi: Police Foil Kidnap, Save Victim in Daring Operation

In a dramatic pre-dawn operation, officers of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have rescued a kidnap victim in Ikot Abasi just hours after he was abducted from his residence.
The victim, whose identity is being withheld for security reasons, was taken by gunmen at about 2:00 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025.
Acting on swift intelligence, the police intercepted the kidnappers along a road in Southern Annang and successfully rescued the victim unharmed, in what authorities are describing as a textbook operation of courage, precision, and coordination.

“This is a powerful reminder that crime has no safe haven in Akwa Ibom,” said the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, during a press briefing at the State Police Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia.
According to the CP, several items were recovered from the fleeing suspects, including, one Browning pistol, short machete, Peugeot 505 vehicle, Murano car key, pullover used to cover the victim’s face, B1 sweater and a single leg of slippers.

The CP praised the heroic efforts of the rescue team and announced commendation awards for SP Kingsley Anosike, CPL Ideba Eleng, and PC Nsikak Vincent, who played key roles in the successful operation.
“This is not just a victory for one person, but for every citizen who believes in justice and the rule of law. We will not rest until Akwa Ibom is safe for all,” CP Azare said.
The Command reassured residents of its commitment to rooting out crime and protecting lives across the state.
