The skies above Enugu shimmered with promise on Monday morning as Governor Peter Mbah watched the maiden flight of Enugu Air lift off—marking not just a milestone in aviation, but the birth of a dream long nurtured.

Dignitaries, investors, aviation experts, and thrilled citizens gathered at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport to witness what the governor called “a defining chapter in the story of Enugu.”
“This is not just about an airline,” Mbah said, voice charged with emotion. “It’s about giving wings to the aspirations of our people. It’s about saying Enugu is open—open for business, open for tourism, open to the world.”
Though the official unveiling came weeks after his administration’s second anniversary, the governor said the launch was a “fitting gift” to the people of Enugu, symbolizing progress, vision, and the spirit of self-belief.
As the Enugu Air aircraft roared down the runway and lifted off, the cheers from onlookers echoed louder than the engines—a sound, many said, of a state finally reclaiming its space in national and regional development.

“We didn’t make empty promises. We set a goal—to transform Enugu into Nigeria’s most attractive destination for investment, living, and tourism. Today, we’ve taken a major step toward that future,” he said.
Standing beside him, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, addressed public fears over the fate of the Akanu Ibiam airport.
“Let me be clear: we are not selling Enugu airport. We are concessioning it—bringing in private capital and expertise to modernize it. That includes a full cargo terminal, supported by the Presidency and National Assembly,” Keyamo assured.
He praised Governor Mbah’s determination and swift action.
“This is leadership that doesn’t wait for Abuja. This is how progress is made—by rolling up your sleeves and getting it done,” he said.
The planned cargo terminal, he added, will turn Enugu into a major export hub—giving farmers, manufacturers, and local businesses direct access to global markets from their own backyard.
For the people of Enugu, Enugu Air is more than a carrier—it’s a symbol. A symbol of movement. Of ambition. Of a government daring to dream—and delivering.
