In a bold step toward youth empowerment and economic diversification, the Kogi State Government has commenced the training of 2,310 young people in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion technology across the state.
Announcing the initiative in Lokoja on Friday, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said the programme is being implemented in partnership with Sufpay Ltd and targets youths from all 21 Local Government Areas.

Fanwo described the move as a strategic response to Nigeria’s energy transition agenda and a fulfillment of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s campaign promise to create jobs and equip Kogi youths with practical, future-ready skills.

“This is more than a training scheme — it’s about building a generation of skilled professionals who will thrive in the new energy economy. CNG is the future, and we are positioning our young people to lead in that future,” Fanwo stated.
According to the Commissioner, the programme not only promises to boost local economic development but also offers a proactive, non-kinetic approach to curbing insecurity by productively engaging the state’s youthful population.
“Our youths are the greatest asset of our state, and Governor Ododo’s commitment to their development is unwavering. This initiative is a clear demonstration of that,” he said.
The Commissioner also acknowledged the technical expertise and support of Sufpay Ltd, describing the partnership as a catalyst in advancing the state’s development agenda.
The training initiative is decentralized, with centers strategically located in Lokoja, Okene, Idah, and Kabba, covering the three Senatorial Districts and the state capital. This structure ensures accessibility and encourages participation across the state.
The programme also aligns with national efforts to adopt cleaner energy solutions and reduce reliance on petrol, while tackling unemployment through hands-on technical empowerment.
With this initiative, Kogi State is taking a significant leap toward energy innovation, skills development, and inclusive economic growth — driven by the power of its youth.
