Ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Nasarawa State on Wednesday, the Nigeria Police has announced traffic diversions and partial movement restrictions across Lafia and its environs.
In a statement issued Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, the restrictions will be in effect from 6:00 PM today, June 24, to 6:00 PM Wednesday, June 25, as part of security measures to ensure a smooth and safe presidential visit.

According to the directive, Inbound traffic from Akwanga will be diverted at Azuba’s Mechanic Village through the bypass to Akurba, Mararaba Akunza, and then to Makurdi Road.
Vehicles from Makurdi will be diverted at Bukan Kwato–Mararaba Akunza to reconnect via Akurba and Azuba.
Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, assured residents that adequate personnel have been deployed and appealed for public cooperation, stressing the temporary inconvenience is necessary for public safety.
Security has been heightened across Lafia, with visible presence of the Nigerian Army, Air Force’s 22 Quick Response Wing, DSS, and Police.
Additional reinforcement includes the NSCDC, NCS, NIS, FRSC, as well as NAYES and NDLEA, all strategically positioned to prevent breakdown of law and order and manage traffic.
The Command thanked residents for their understanding and support during the visit.
