The governorship bid of former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, is gathering strong momentum in Nasarawa State as key youth groups endorse his candidacy and an independent poll places him far ahead of other aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.
On Monday, Alhaji Fashiola, Chairman of the IGP Adamu Ambassadors Forum, rallied young people across the state to unite behind Adamu, whom he described as a “tested and trusted” leader with the right experience and integrity to lead Nasarawa into a new era.
“Adamu’s track record as IGP speaks for itself,” Fashiola said.
“He is a man of action, a man of truth, and above all, a man with a clear vision for development and progress.”
Fashiola noted that under Adamu’s leadership, Nigeria witnessed significant improvements in internal security and police reforms, citing these as indicators of the former police chief’s capacity to govern effectively.
Also throwing their weight behind Adamu’s ambition, the Progressive Youths for a Greater Nasarawa announced their endorsement during a press conference in Lafia.
Their convener, Mahmoud Danladi, and secretary, Farouk Maigida, hailed Adamu as the most qualified among the emerging aspirants.
“He is a symbol of competence and character,” they stated.
“Adamu has served at the highest levels of policing, both locally and internationally, and he understands what it takes to manage people, resources, and security challenges.”
The group recalled Adamu’s notable achievements, including the reduction of banditry, tackling Boko Haram threats, and restoring safety along key highways like the Kaduna-Abuja expressway. They commended his handling of the #EndSARS aftermath and efforts to reform the police.
They also highlighted his consistent support for education through scholarships for Nasarawa youth—despite not holding any political office.
“He has been giving back to the people long before this political ambition,” the group emphasized.
“We need a governor who knows Nasarawa’s security landscape and can attract both local and international investment.”
In a development that further boosted his chances, Mohammed Adamu has emerged the leading aspirant in a new independent poll conducted by TCMPoll Research and Consultancy Services.
The survey, which ran from June 1 to July 10, was conducted using SMS and mobile web channels across all 13 local government areas in Nasarawa State. The polling sample was drawn from INEC records and other reliable databases, reflecting Nasarawa’s 1.8 million-plus PVC holders.
Among the 14 aspirants assessed, Adamu received over 51% of support—more than doubling the numbers of his closest rival, Mohammed Adamu: 51.26%, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada (SDP): 20.31%, David Emmanuel Ombugadu (PDP): 11%, Musa Ahmed Muhammad (Accountant-General): 5%, Abdulkarim Kana (APC): 3%, Ibrahim Mohammed Ja’afar (APC): 2% and Other aspirants: Combined 7%.
According to the research firm, the poll was designed to reflect voter sentiment and awareness, with a focus on leadership experience, public trust, and development capacity.
With growing grassroots support, a proven national reputation, and strong polling numbers, Mohammed Adamu is fast emerging as the candidate to beat in the race for the Nasarawa State governorship in 2027.
