A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former aide to ex-Governor Idris Wada, Hon. Shittu Idris Haruna, has faulted the recent claim by the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo that all liabilities inherited from the Wada government have been settled.
Hon. Shittu, in a statement issued on Friday, described the claim as misleading and an attempt to whitewash unresolved obligations. He said political appointees who served under Capt. Idris Wada are still being owed three months’ salary to date.
“It is disheartening that political appointees who gave their all in service to the state are being treated with such disregard,” Shittu said. “These individuals should have been paid before their sweat dried.”
He alleged that the only payment made to the appointees came during the last gubernatorial election, when one month’s salary was disbursed — a move he described as politically motivated and aimed at vote-buying. According to him, the outstanding salaries had been captured in the ₦50 billion bailout fund requested by the Wada administration, which was allegedly misappropriated under former Governor Yahaya Bello.
Shittu argued that until these outstanding wages are fully paid, any declaration that previous government liabilities have been cleared is “nothing but window dressing.”
The Ododo administration has yet to issue a formal response to the allegation.
