Tragedy struck on Monday in Obi, the headquarters of Obi Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, as thunder strike claimed the life of a young man and left four others critically injured.

The victim, identified as Aminu Ayitogo, was reportedly taking shelter in a roadside hut during a rainstorm when he was struck by lightning.
Eyewitnesses said he had stopped after his motorcycle broke down and was waiting for the rain to subside when the incident occurred.

Four other individuals who were also in the hut sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby health facility for emergency treatment. Their condition is said to be critical.

Sources close to the family confirmed that the deceased was a Deputy Director of Research and Statistics at the Lafia Local Government Council. He had returned home to Obi for the Eid-El-Kabir celebration and was reportedly returning from his farm when the tragedy happened.

As of the time of this report, local authorities have yet to issue an official statement due to the ongoing public holiday. There are concerns that the casualty figure may rise as more details emerge.
