The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he remains committed to the party despite political tensions and public speculation about his loyalty.
Speaking during his monthly ministerial press briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike emphasized that he remains firmly rooted in the PDP and continues to work hard for the party, even as he occupies a key position in President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led federal government.
“I’m still in PDP and I work hard for this party,” Wike stated.

The former Rivers State governor also took a swipe at wealthy elites, vowing that he would not hesitate to take bold decisions that affect the rich, especially when those decisions serve the interests of the public. He said he finds satisfaction in confronting those who assume they are untouchable.
“I take joy when stepping on the toes of big men, those who say nothing will happen. I take joy in saying something will happen,” Wike said. “You want me to take decisions against the poor people while you, the rich man, think nothing will happen – something will happen. And that’s why we are getting results.”
He insisted that his allegiance, as FCT Minister, lies with President Tinubu, whose administration he is determined to support by delivering results in the capital city.
“The only person that I owe is Mr. President. This is what I’m doing because I have to support the government and make a difference,” Wike stated.
Wike’s remarks come amid continued controversy surrounding his political alignment, particularly after his appointment by an APC president. His comments appear aimed at silencing critics who accuse him of double loyalty and at projecting himself as a results-driven administrator willing to challenge the status quo, including Nigeria’s wealthy elite.
As the 2027 elections approach, political watchers are keeping a close eye on Wike’s next moves within the PDP and the broader national political landscape.
