A suspected cultist believed to have been behind a series of criminal activities in Utine Nduong and nearby communities in Okobo Local Government Area has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Effiong Umoh, was apprehended following a swift operation launched by police operatives based on credible intelligence. According to authorities, Umoh had long been on the Command’s radar for his alleged involvement in cult-related violence and community intimidation.
During the arrest, officers recovered a locally made pistol and a cutlass, both of which were reportedly concealed on the suspect. The weapons are believed to have been used in carrying out attacks that have unsettled the local community in recent months.
Police spokesperson DSP Timfon John confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday, adding that a discreet investigation is underway to trace and apprehend other suspected cult members linked to Umoh.
The Police Command also urged residents to remain alert and cooperative, encouraging the public to report suspicious activities using any of the emergency hotlines provided.
“We remain fully committed to protecting lives and property, and we call on members of the public to support our efforts by providing timely and useful information,” DSP Timfon said.
