Defection Without Leaving? Osun PDP Senators Spark Uproar, Endorse Tinubu for 2027

In a stunning show of defiance that could reshape the 2027 political battlefield, all three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators from Osun State have publicly and unapologetically endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term—while still wearing PDP colours.

The unprecedented move, which party insiders are calling a “political betrayal” and “a silent defection,” was announced in a joint statement on Monday, shaking the foundations of Nigeria’s main opposition party.

Senators Kamarudeen Lere Oyewumi (Osun West), Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla (Osun Central), and Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (Osun East) declared that they were standing firmly behind Tinubu, calling him the “sole and legitimate candidate” worthy of Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.

“This is not politics as usual,” the lawmakers said in their signed communiqué. “This is conviction. Tinubu’s leadership is working. The people of Osun see it, feel it, and support it. And so do we.”

Citing visible economic gains, a drop in food prices, improved security, and accelerated infrastructure projects, the senators praised Tinubu’s administration as “transformational,” insisting that their allegiance was to Nigeria first.

“There is no credible opposition within our ranks,” the statement boldly declared. “Osun Central, Osun East, and Osun West stand united in this momentous decision.”

The shock endorsement has ignited fierce debate across party lines, with analysts questioning whether this signals the beginning of an internal revolt within the PDP—or a quiet realignment of national politics.

With this move, the Osun senators may have set the stage for a new era of crossover politics, where party lines blur and performance—not party loyalty—determines allegiance.

One thing is clear: the 2027 race has just taken a dramatic turn.
