A Nigerian journalist and activist, Francess Olisa-Ogbonnaya, has come forward with explosive claims that social media influencer Sandra Duru—also known as “Prof Mgbeke”—attempted to orchestrate a N30 million smear campaign against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Olisa-Ogbonnaya made the allegations during an appearance on Adeola Fayehun’s YouTube show, where she revealed she was offered N400,000 to create false narratives using manipulated audio files and a fabricated script. She said Duru initially sent N100,000 as a gift, followed by another N300,000 with instructions to voice over content aimed at discrediting the senator.
“She wanted me to produce content suggesting the senator made certain statements, but the audio was empty—there was nothing to support those false claims,” Olisa-Ogbonnaya stated.
The alleged plot reportedly included fabricated allegations of sexual misconduct and ethnic bigotry. Olisa-Ogbonnaya described Duru as a serial extortionist with a history of targeting political figures, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma. She also alleged Duru had tried to involve well-known activists like Deji Adeyanju and Omoyele Sowore.
“She claimed Senate President Godswill Akpabio was sponsoring the attack and even played an audio clip. But I know how it was staged—I have the original recording with timestamps,” she said.
According to Olisa-Ogbonnaya, Duru had plans to enlist controversial influencer Verydarkman (VDM) for a social media campaign worth N30 million aimed at damaging Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s public image.
She said her decision to speak out was driven by a commitment to truth and democratic integrity. “This is not just about politics. It’s about defending journalism and holding on to our democratic values,” she said, adding that she is prepared to testify and release her evidence if needed.
Olisa-Ogbonnaya also dismissed Duru’s separate claims against FIDA and Dr. Oby Ezekwesili as entirely baseless, saying the recordings lacked any such content.
The revelations have intensified discussions around digital misinformation, online blackmail, and political manipulation through social media. Many Nigerians are now calling for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable.
