The Kogi State House of Assembly has issued a stern warning to the Coordinator of the Kogi State Social Investment Programme Agency (KOSSIPA), Hajiya Aishat Oyiza Omade, threatening to issue a bench warrant for her arrest if she fails to appear before the House on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, gave the warning during Tuesday’s plenary in Lokoja after Omade failed to honour a summons issued by the House Committee on Special Duties, Legislative Compliance, Government House Administration, and the Governor’s Office.
The House is seeking clarification on issues surrounding the Coordinator’s screening and confirmation process, particularly documents such as her educational credentials, which she had earlier promised to present.
According to the committee’s report presented by its Chairman and House Majority Leader, Hon. Suleiman Abdulrazak (APC, Okene I), Omade has repeatedly failed to respond to the summons, raising concerns of disregard for legislative authority.
The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Comfort Nwuchiola Egwaba, had directed Omade to appear at the May 6 plenary. However, the Coordinator sent a letter on the scheduled date citing official duties elsewhere and asked for a new date.
Reacting to the development, Speaker Yusuf said the Assembly deliberated on her request in Executive Session and agreed to reschedule her appearance for May 7. He made it clear that no further excuses would be tolerated.
“This Assembly will not entertain any act of indiscipline, misconduct, or insubordination from any government appointee,” the Speaker said. “She must appear before this House tomorrow, or we will invoke our constitutional powers to compel her appearance.”
The Speaker emphasized that appointed officials, unlike elected ones, must be accountable to the legislature and respect its authority.
