***Nenadi Usman, Kingibe, Others Call for National Reset Amid Mounting Economic Pain
In a stunning declaration that sent ripples through Nigeria’s political landscape, prominent PDP stalwart Dr. Segun Sowunmi broke ranks during the 2025 May Day celebration in Abuja, boldly endorsing Labour Party’s Peter Obi as the nation’s “only authentic candidate” for the 2027 presidential election.
“I am of the PDP,” Sowunmi told a captivated crowd at Merit House, Maitama, “but the future of Nigeria lies with Peter Obi. He is the only one out there actively searching for solutions. The rest are simply waiting for what they’re not prepared for.”
The May Day talk show — jointly organized by the Obidient Movement, Cyrus Group, and the Free Nigeria Foundation — transformed what is usually a workers’ day celebration into a clarion call for leadership change, youth engagement, and economic renewal.
Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, used the platform to reaffirm the party’s pro-worker roots. “This party belongs to Nigerian workers,” she declared. “A government that cannot uplift the lives of its people has failed. Workers cannot be the creators of wealth and still remain in poverty.”
She unveiled a five-point worker agenda focused on fair wages, affordable housing, quality healthcare, labor law enforcement, and social security — emphasizing that the Labour Party is the only party with the moral and historical right to lead a worker-focused transformation.
Also speaking at the event, FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe issued a scathing rebuke to Nigerian youths for their political apathy. “You are too quiet,” she warned. “We are watching this country sink, and the silence is deafening. This is your fight — take it seriously.”
Renowned poet Dike Chukwumerije struck a philosophical note, urging Nigerians to commit to a long-term national rebirth. “Even if it takes 80 years, it must be done. If not for us, then for our children,” he said, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
Dr. Moses Paul (popularly known as Dr Mo), Director of the Free Nigeria Foundation and coordinator of the rally, fired a warning shot to politicians ahead of the 2027 elections. “It will not be business as usual,” he said, specifically cautioning FCT Minister Nyesom Wike against any form of voter intimidation.
“Never again,” Dr Mo said. “Abuja residents know where they are — and where they’re going.”
The rally was also graced by veteran gospel musician Bongos Ikwue, along with respected labour activists and civil society leaders, adding generational depth and continuity to the growing movement for change.
As 2027 draws nearer, and with economic hardship deepening across the nation, the Abuja rally underscored a rising tide of political consciousness — and a growing consensus around a single figure seen as capable of navigating the nation out of its crisis: Peter Obi.
The message from Merit House was loud and clear: Nigeria is ready for a reset, and millions are gearing up to make their voices heard.
