In a searing political rebuttal, former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary and ULMWP Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, Comrade Timi Frank, has accused former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of attempting to rewrite history through calculated dishonesty.
Reacting to Okowa’s recent claim that he “regrets” serving as Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, Frank described the statement as “a fraudulent attempt to distance himself from a role he lobbied desperately to secure.”
“Okowa did not stumble into the vice-presidential slot—he campaigned for it behind closed doors, begged power brokers, and manipulated internal PDP politics to get it,” Frank said. “Now he wants to play the victim. Nigerians deserve better than this low-grade political theatre.”
Frank said that if Okowa was ever misquoted, he has had more than 24 hours to issue a denial—his silence speaks volumes.
According to Frank, Okowa’s political history is riddled with self-serving betrayals: from turning against his former godfather, James Ibori, to abandoning the PDP at its lowest point, the former governor’s actions reveal a pattern of ambition without loyalty.
“He is not a man of principle. He is a political drifter who shifts with the winds of personal survival,” Frank stated.
Frank laid the blame for part of PDP’s 2023 misfortune on Okowa’s candidacy, asserting that his selection over Governor Nyesom Wike was a strategic blunder driven by hidden lobbying rather than merit or electoral value.
“Wike would have energized the PDP base and delivered stronger numbers. Okowa offered nothing—and even as a sitting governor, he lost Delta State to the APC,” Frank said.
With Okowa now defecting to the APC, Frank warned that Nigerians must be wary of a growing trend: the use of ruling party membership as a shield against prosecution.
“Okowa did not join the APC because he believes in Tinubu’s leadership. He joined because the EFCC is knocking, and he’s looking for sanctuary.”
He added: “The APC has become a haven for the corrupt. With every new defector fleeing accountability, its image sinks further. Tinubu’s desperation for 2027 is now attracting liabilities, not leaders.”
Frank also revealed that Okowa has allegedly convinced his successor, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to follow him into the APC—another move he says will backfire.
“Okowa’s lack of political value is evident. He’s a burden to any party. He didn’t deliver for PDP in 2023, and he won’t deliver for APC in 2027.”
Frank concluded by highlighting the personal toll Okowa’s actions took on Atiku Abubakar.
“Atiku sacrificed long-held alliances—like his bond with James Ibori—on Okowa’s behalf. He trusted the wrong man. Behind Okowa’s soft-spoken image was a ruthless operator who gave nothing and cost everything.”
