***As Nigerians Urged to Be Their Brother’s Keeper in Challenging Times
In a season marked by renewal, hope, and the promise of new beginnings, prominent voices in Niger State have called on Nigerians to rise above division and despair, embracing peace, unity, and selfless love as the true spirit of Easter.
The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, and the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, have both urged citizens to draw strength from the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ—an eternal message of triumph over adversity.
In a powerful Easter message released through the Directorate of Information, Speaker Sarkindaji described Easter as a time for deep reflection on values that bind a nation together. “Easter is more than a celebration,” he said. “It is a sacred reminder that compassion, unity, and sacrifice are the very pillars on which a peaceful and prosperous society stands.”
He encouraged Christians and all Nigerians to recommit to kindness and nation-building, especially at a time when the country is navigating social and economic uncertainties. “This season must renew our collective commitment to care for one another. The rich must not turn away from the struggles of the poor. We cannot live in comfort while our neighbours suffer.”
Sarkindaji expressed faith that Easter’s message of hope would inspire a shared purpose among citizens and breathe peace into every home. He extended warm wishes for a joyful Easter filled with love, laughter, and family togetherness.
In a related message titled “Be Hopeful, Let Us Show Concern for One Another and Pray for Our Leaders,” CAN Chairman Most Rev. Dr. Yohanna echoed similar sentiments, urging Christians to go beyond celebration and become vessels of love and mercy.
“This Easter, let us remember the poor, the widows, the orphans, and those in distress,” he appealed. “Jesus gave all for humanity. Let us, in turn, give from our hearts to those who need us most.”
He called for intense prayers for the success of Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago’s New Niger Agenda, citing visible progress in healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure, and expressing hope that the state is on the brink of transformation.
“Easter marks the victory of life over death, hope over fear,” he declared. “It is the day the Lord has made—let us rejoice and be glad in it. But more importantly, let us live it. Let our actions speak louder than our words.”
The Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese emphasized that Christians must become living testaments of the Risen Christ—mirroring His love, compassion, and commitment to humanity.
In a nation yearning for healing and direction, this Easter, leaders in Niger State are calling for more than prayers—they are calling for action, empathy, and unity. A new Nigeria, they insist, begins with each of us.
