Abure’s Leadership Has Been Dismantled by Supreme Court Ruling , Labour Party Declares

The Labour Party has firmly rejected claims by Mr. Abure and his faction regarding the conduct of an illegal governorship primary in Anambra State, stressing that such assertions are entirely baseless and untrue.
The party, under the leadership of the National Working Committee (NWC) recognized by the Supreme Court, pointed to a landmark ruling delivered on April 4, 2025, that invalidated the leadership of Mr. Abure.
The Supreme Court ruling explicitly vacated the previous orders from the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal that had recognized Abure as the legitimate National Chairman of the party.
This ruling, the party emphasized, stripped Abure of all authority to act on behalf of Labour Party, effectively nullifying his leadership status.
Senator Darlington Nwokocha, National Secretary of the Labour Party’s legitimate NWC, clarified that following the judgment, the party had duly appointed Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as the new National Chairman, further solidifying the lawful leadership structure. This leadership transition, in line with the ruling, effectively overrides any claims or actions taken by Abure or his faction.
“We categorically state that any attempts by Mr. Abure and his group to conduct primaries, submit candidate names to INEC, or take any action on behalf of the party are null and void,” Senator Nwokocha asserted. “Their actions are a direct violation of the Supreme Court’s decision and have no legal standing.”
The statement urged INEC, which had been informed of the Supreme Court ruling, to uphold the rule of law and reject any submissions or actions from Abure’s faction.
The Labour Party’s legitimate leadership, under Senator Usman, remains committed to conducting a lawful and transparent process as it prepares for the November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election.
The Labour Party also called on its members, supporters, and the general public to remain focused on the rebuilding efforts under the new leadership and to disregard any confusion or misleading information propagated by Abure’s group.
“We are confident that INEC will adhere to the Supreme Court’s directive and ensure that only actions from the recognized leadership of the party are accepted,” the statement concluded.
As the party moves forward with its plans for Anambra’s upcoming election, it is clear that the Labour Party is committed to upholding democratic principles and ensuring the party remains focused on its mission of offering credible leadership.
