The Federal Government has launched the construction of an erosion control embankment in Muye, a community in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Acting Managing Director of the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Area Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Mr. Jimoh Haruna Gabi, performed the official flag-off on Monday, April 7, 2025. He was joined by the member representing Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Mahmud.
Gabi announced that over ₦600 million has been allocated for the project, which is scheduled for completion within four months. He stressed the importance of following all technical specifications and warned that N-HYPPADEC would not tolerate any compromise in quality.
He also encouraged the community to appreciate the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and uplift living standards in rural areas.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Mahmud described the erosion control initiative as a major accomplishment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He explained that erosion had disrupted the lives and economy of Muye and surrounding communities for years, particularly affecting about 37 communities whose livelihoods depend on fishing and a weekly market.
Mahmud said his persistent advocacy for intervention had finally yielded results, and he urged residents to fully cooperate with the contractor to ensure smooth execution of the project.
Also speaking, the traditional leader of Muye, Alhaji Salihu Muye Mohammed, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the project. He said the community was delighted that the intervention was taking place under his leadership and commended both N-HYPPADEC and Hon. Mahmud for their roles in making it happen. He assured that the people of Muye would offer maximum support to ensure the project’s success.
