In a dramatic political twist, the Labour Party has pulled the brakes on its highly anticipated Anambra State 2025 governorship primary, originally set for Saturday, April 5.
This decision followed the Supreme Court’s ruling earlier on Friday that ousted Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman, dismantling his leadership structure across Nigeria.
Comrade Peter Okoye, the acting chairman of the party in Anambra, confirmed the suspension and stressed that any primary election conducted outside the authority of Senator Nenadi Usman—the newly recognized party leader—would be null and void.
He further announced an emergency meeting of the state executive team to chart a new course and align with the national leadership.
“This isn’t a setback,” Okoye said. “It’s a necessary reset for order and unity.”
Despite the shake-up, party faithful have been urged to stay focused and patient.
The Labour Party, which has seen a rapid rise in popularity across the Southeast, maintains confidence that its internal crisis will be resolved swiftly, and its campaign momentum restored.
