APC will take over Taraba State in 2027- Maigari

The Minister of State for Regional Development Alhaji Uba Maigari on Friday said the All Progressives Congress APC will take over power in Taraba State in 2027.

Alhaji Maigari who disclose this while interacting with journalists in Jalingo said that apart from the 2015 general elections where the late Aisha Alhassan clearly won but was denied the seat, the party lost 2019 and 2023 elections because of internal crisis within the party.

He said that in the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, stakeholders have realised their mistakes and have now resolved to work towards achieving the onerous purpose of taking over the state in 2027.

The Minister, who was the Chairman of the party’s gubernatorial campaign council in the last elections dismissed the allegations that the opposition party in the state, APC was bought over by the present government of People’s Democratic Party PDP government in the State.

“People must be able to distinguish between governance and politics. I am a Federal Minister but I hail from Taraba and Dr Agbu Kefas is my Governor whether I like it or not. And so if I have the interest of the State at heart, I must be available to collaborate with him to bring development to our people. This is a working relationship.

“We have outlived the era where political leanings were allowed to create unnecessary and unhealthy animosity, detrimental to the general development of the State. We are too civilised for that.

“Very soon we would go into politicking again and the politics will naturally take the centre stage. Let me shock you that the APC is going to take over Taraba in 2027 definitely. We would unseat the governor and that arrangement is in full gear. So it’s ridiculous for anyone to infer that we have been bought over or are romancing the Governor.

“The only thing that stopped the party from taking over power since 2019 is the internal wranglings and bad blood among party members. Everyone wanted to be the governor at the same time. That was just the problem.

“Usually, once a candidate emerges, the others will withdraw their loyalty and support and will join forces with the opposition. We saw that in 2019 and the same in 2023. As we speak, we have been able to come together and forge a stronger bond to ensure that whoever gets the ticket gets full support of the rest of us.

“As the Minister and leader of the party in the State, I have resolved that I will not contest the governorship or any other position. This is just to ensure that I remain very neutral and provide a level playing field for everyone. Once people are sure that they lost genuinely at the primaries and not because of some manipulations, I’m sure they will be more sportsmanly”he said
