In a landmark humanitarian effort, the Hadejia Emirate in Jigawa State has distributed N1.072 billion worth of Zakkat (Obligatory Alms) to 185,000 needy individuals, marking the emirate’s most successful collection drive in recent history.

The Emirate Zakkat Committee, which oversees the collection and distribution, recorded a threefold increase from the previous year’s N300 million, a feat credited to a bumper harvest and improved collection strategies. The contributions included cash, farm produce, and livestock gathered from 27 districts across eight local government areas.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Hadejia Emirate Council, Malam Muhammad Garba Talaki, the highest contributors were Guri District (₦105.7 million), Auyo District (₦104.07 million), and Jabo District (₦100.02 million).
The report was presented to the Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji (Dr.) Adamu Abubakar Maje, by the Zakkat Committee Secretary, Eng. Isma’ila Garba Barde.

The distribution adhered strictly to Islamic principles, prioritizing orphans, widows, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Recognizing the exceptional commitment of key contributors, the Emir of Hadejia honored three district heads with awards of excellence, urging them to maintain their dedication to this pillar of Islam.

With this unprecedented success, the Hadejia Emirate has reinforced its role as a leader in Islamic social welfare, setting a high standard for future Zakkat initiatives.
