Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has vowed that those responsible for the brutal killings of innocent travelers in Uromi will face the full weight of the law. Fourteen suspects have been arrested and are being transferred to Abuja for further interrogation.

The victims, hunters traveling from Kano State for Sallah celebrations, were ambushed and murdered by a mob last Thursday in Esan North East Local Government Area. The attack has sent shockwaves across the nation, prompting swift intervention from authorities.

On Monday, Governor Okpebholo visited Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin in Abuja to express his condolences and reaffirm his administration’s commitment to justice. He revealed that the Inspector General of Police and the Deputy Inspector General of Criminal Investigation are fully engaged in the case.

“It’s unfortunate that this happened in our state. We are not happy, and action is being taken at the highest level. Fourteen suspects have been arrested, and they are being moved to Abuja for interrogation,” the governor stated.

Senator Barau welcomed the governor’s swift response, stressing that justice must be served to prevent such tragedies in the future.

“This barbaric act must not go unpunished. Edo State has always been a home for people from all over the country, and we must ensure this never happens again,” he said.

Governor Okpebholo is set to meet with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as part of efforts to support the victims’ families and strengthen peace-building initiatives. With federal authorities closely monitoring the case, the nation awaits swift justice for the slain travelers.
