The Kano State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the violent attack on the convoy of Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, at the Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground.
The assault resulted in the tragic killing of a vigilante officer and left another injured.
According to eyewitness reports, hoodlums hurled stones at the Emir’s entourage immediately after prayers, in an apparent attempt to disrupt and disrespect the revered traditional leader.
The Emir was under the protection of palace guards and security personnel.
The violence escalated when a vigilante officer, Surajo Rabiu of Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, was fatally stabbed. Another officer, Aminu Sulaiman of Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.
A statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed that one suspect, Usman Sagiru (20) of Sharifai Quarters, has been arrested in connection with the murder and attack.
Police have also summoned Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for interrogation, while other suspects remain at large.
The Kano State Police Command has reaffirmed its ban on all forms of Durbar processions and violent gatherings. The statement warned that any individual or group attempting to incite violence or disrupt public peace will face strict legal consequences.
“We appeal to the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and order,” Kiyawa stated.
Authorities have assured residents that investigations are ongoing, with a commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice.
