The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has uncovered an illegal maternity home in Usung Atiat, Abak Local Government Area, allegedly involved in child trafficking, unlawful medical practice, and impersonation.

Acting on intelligence, police operatives raided the facility, arresting the prime suspect, Patience Ene Jimmy.
The raid led to the rescue of seven pregnant women and five infants—all from different parts of the state.
The public relations officer of the police command DSP Timfon John in a statement on Friday indicated that search of the premises uncovered unauthorized medical supplies, including syringes, drip lines, herbs, and immunization records.
Authorities believe the suspect had no legal authorization to operate the facility.

The rescued victims are now under protective care while investigations continue to identify other individuals involved in the operation.

Police Commissioner CP Baba Mohammed Azare reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling illegal networks that exploit vulnerable individuals.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.

For credible information, the public can contact the Command’s emergency lines: 09040000065 or 08020913810.
