The Squash Section of the prestigious Lagos Country Club successfully hosted the 2nd edition of the Geophase Annual Closed & Club Pro Tournament, an event dedicated to celebrating both current and former professional squash players. The competition, which ran from Monday, February 24, to Friday, February 28, 2025, saw intense participation from club professionals who once earned a living from the sport and are now active members of various squash-playing clubs across the country and over 40 members of the Squash Section, Lagos Country club who entered for the Closed tournament.
Sponsored by Geophase Resources Limited, the tournament reinforced the organization’s commitment to the development of squash in Nigeria. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dr. Waliu Kayode Adeolu, Managing Director of Geophase, reiterated his passion for the game and the importance of recognizing Nigeria’s squash veterans.
“At Geophase, we believe in promoting squash not just for the current generation but also for those who have carried the Nigerian flag in the past. This tournament is our way of honoring them and ensuring they remain a key part of the game’s development in the country,” Dr. Adeolu said.
The competition featured multiple categories, with thrilling performances from top squash players. In the Club Ex-Pro Category, Yusuf Durosinlorun emerged victorious, defeating Oladimeji Adebowale in the final. Seun Peters and Wasiu Bello finished as joint third-place winners.
The Men Closed Category saw Dayo Tifase claim the top prize, edging out Niyi Ibrahim in the final, while Udoh Nkana and Taiwo Sanni secured joint third place.

In the Veteran Closed Category, Funmi Bamkole took home the trophy, beating Udoh Nkana in the final. Murphy Yusuf and Deji Sule shared the third-place honors.
Meanwhile, the Plate Closed Category was won by Marvin Ukperegbu, who triumphed over Aare Bayo Sodade in the final, with ‘Semoore Badejo and Sunny Obaze securing joint third place.
