Ismaila Isah quoted him to have made the statement on Monday during the official launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Food Outreach Programme in Lokoja.
Governor Ododo emphasized that food security remains a top priority for his administration.
While commending the federal government’s intervention, he announced plans to expand Kogi State’s own quarterly food distribution programme to reach more vulnerable households.
“The Renewed Hope Initiative is not just an intervention; it is a beacon of hope for those struggling to meet their basic needs. We will continue to complement this effort by ensuring food security in every corner of our state,” he said.
Representing the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the event, Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, highlighted the importance of proper distribution, stressing that the food aid must reach those who need it most.
She urged beneficiaries to use the relief items wisely and warned against diverting or reselling them.
“This programme is about dignity, survival, and ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind. We must all work together to fight hunger and economic hardship,” she noted.
Beyond food distribution, Shettima reiterated that the Renewed Hope Initiative extends its impact through various social interventions, including, grants for People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs), climate change awareness programmes for students, and the ‘Flow with Confidence’ Initiative, which provides sanitary wears to young girls in rural areas to support school attendance,”
Kogi State First Lady and RHI State Coordinator, Hajia Safinat Usman Ododo, praised the First Lady’s initiative, describing it as a critical step toward improving the welfare of the most vulnerable. She reaffirmed her commitment to working with local communities to ensure that women and children benefit from government programmes.
Governor Ododo also took the opportunity to highlight his administration’s achievements in women and youth empowerment. He revealed that Kogi State has already surpassed the 35% affirmative action benchmark for women’s participation in government, adding that his policies will continue to uplift all citizens.
Reaffirming his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Governor Ododo called on Nigerians to stand behind the federal government’s economic recovery and social welfare programmes.
“Kogi State is fully aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda. Our mission is to support every effort that brings relief and progress to our people,” he stated.
The Renewed Hope Initiative Food Outreach Programme, championed by the First Lady, is a nationwide effort to combat hunger and uplift vulnerable Nigerians. With Kogi State actively participating, thousands of households are set to benefit from this intervention.
