Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has charged the Edo State Traffic Control Management Agency (EDSTMA) with the urgent task of eliminating indiscriminate parking and easing traffic congestion across the state, particularly in bustling market areas.

Speaking during the decoration of Engr. Stainless Ijeghede as the new Managing Director of EDSTMA at the Government House in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo expressed concern over the agency’s performance in maintaining order and ensuring smooth traffic flow.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua in a statement quoted the Governor to have said,

“It is unacceptable that Edo people are constantly subjected to the frustration of gridlock caused by poorly managed parking and traffic,” the governor said.
“This city belongs to all of us, and EDSTMA must rise to the occasion by addressing these issues head-on. Market areas, in particular, are in dire need of proper monitoring and control.”

He further emphasized that the indiscriminate parking of vehicles and buses had made several parts of the state unkempt, urging the agency to improve its operations immediately.

“This is your primary assignment. I expect to see a cleaner, more organized city with free-flowing traffic. Indiscriminate parking is causing unnecessary hardship for our people, and EDSTMA must act decisively. Monitor the market areas closely and ensure vehicles park only in designated spaces,” the governor directed.

In response, Engr. Stainless Ijeghede expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead EDSTMA, assuring the governor of the agency’s renewed commitment to professionalism and efficiency.

“We are ready to deliver on this mandate. Under my leadership, EDSTMA will work tirelessly to improve traffic flow and restore order across Edo State,” Ijeghede pledged.

Governor Okpebholo’s firm stance on traffic issues reflects his administration’s commitment to creating a more organized, livable Edo State.
